Rock Solid Builds: Why Newfoundland’s Nikki, Paul and the Crew Have Won Over Viewers
There are plenty of renovation shows on television, but there’s something different about Rock Solid Builds.
Maybe it’s the Newfoundland scenery. Maybe it’s the humour. Or maybe it’s because the crew feels like people you could actually know.
Whatever it is, viewers have developed a real attachment to the people behind those renovations.
When we recently asked our Forking Frugal Facebook community about Nikki and Paul, the response was full of affection and memories of watching the show.
And one thing stood out: Nikki has inspired people well beyond the television screen.
A Newfoundland renovation show with plenty of personality
Rock Solid Builds follows Randy Spracklin and his Newfound Builders crew as they tackle construction and renovation projects across Newfoundland.
Based in Brigus, the family-run company deals with unpredictable weather, challenging terrain, historic buildings and the everyday surprises that come with construction.
But it isn’t only about the finished houses.
It’s the personalities, the jokes, the working relationships and the Newfoundland character that make the series memorable.
Nikki Spracklin: An inspiration for women in trades
Nikki’s journey is particularly interesting.
Before joining the construction crew as a carpenter’s apprentice, she was a stay-at-home mother of two.
She pursued an interest in building and became one of the familiar faces on Rock Solid Builds.
That’s the part of her story that seems to resonate with so many people.
There’s something encouraging about seeing a woman enter a skilled trade, learn on the job and show other women that construction isn’t just for men.
For young girls watching, that representation matters too.
And then there’s Paul
Paul Earle became another familiar member of the Newfound Builders team.
Known for his practical skills and ability to solve problems on the job, Paul helped bring the kind of personality and humour that made the show more than another television renovation series.
The relationships between the crew members were part of the entertainment.
A little bit of Newfoundland on television
For Atlantic Canadian viewers, seeing recognizable communities, coastal scenery and local personalities on television means something.
These aren’t anonymous houses in an unidentified neighbourhood.
The landscape, weather, accents and community connections are part of the story.
And for viewers elsewhere in Canada, the series offers a look at Newfoundland life beyond the usual tourist images.
What’s happening with Rock Solid Builds in 2026?
The series returned for its fourth season on Home Network on September 6, 2026.
The new season follows Randy and the crew through more projects, including renovations connected to his family and the restoration of a Newfoundland lighthouse.
It’s another opportunity to see the craftsmanship and community spirit that have made the series popular.
